This 7.9 gallon polypropylene fermenter is less porous that HDPE plastic (commonly used on most bucket style fermenters). What this means is the inside is smoother than HDPE bucket fermenters, making is easier to clean and sanitize completely. HDPE, being more porous, also absorbs more aroma than polypropylene, which you may of noticed in the past when using the HDPE bucket style fermenter with a strong stout or red wine. This means there is less chance of flavors being absorbed into the smoother surface of this fermenter, compared with the old HDPE bucket style fermenters.

The lid features a grommet and airlock, and snaps down securely when you press it hard. Keep in mind the lid does not have a gasket, so this is not as airtight as a carboy with stopper or gasketed Fermzilla. This does not really matter in daily use, however, as it is plenty tight to prevent bacteria from entering, and most brewers judge fermentation by time and specific gravity. However, if you are an airlock watcher, you might prefer a Fermzilla or a Carboy with a rubber stopper, as this will bubble except during the most vigorous stage of ferment, but probably won't bubble when fermentation is less active.

Works well

I like the smooth plastic, an improvement over my old bucket style fermenter. Easy to use valve, and has plenty of room for foaming. The airlock only bubbles during a vigorous ferment, not a problem for me.
