When you distill a spirit, it invariably comes out clear as water. Put the clear spirit in contact with charred American oak, and it turns amber and mellow with toasted wood vanilla-like richness.
This new barrel is made of American Oak by the Gibbs Brothers Cooperage in Arkansas, a 100 year old, 4th generation family owned company. Made of thick Arkanasas American Oak, and crafted by hand in the USA. It is toasted to Char level 3, and perfect for aging your raw Bourbon, Whiskey, Rum, or Tequila. These are the real thing, not to be confused with thinner Mexican barrels made from recycled barrels.
This barrel can be used many times: after aging your first batch of spirits, use it to age a Whiskey Barrel Stout. Note that char level 3 is designed for spirits aging, and is not really suitable for filling initially with beer (although once you have aged spirits in this barrel, it makes a great place to age your Bourbon Barrel Porter or Whiskey Barrel Stout). And after aging your beer, put some cheap Bourbon in it to condition it for the next batch of barrel aged beer.
15" long, 9.5" wide, 11" tall with bung. A spare wooden bung is included. Weighs 13 lbs. when empty.
BARRELS ARE IMPERFECT AND REQUIRE MAINTENANCE - These are wood barrels, and by their nature subject to humidity. To avoid leaks please read our barrel preparation instructions by clicking HERE.
