Hana Malt is named from where this heritage barley originated from, the Hana valley in the Czech Moravia. This variety was used to produce the first pilsner beers back in the 1840s in Bohemia, and is the pilsner malt from which modern lager barley varieties originated.
Exceptionally pale in color, this is the malt to use if you want the pilsner with the lightest blonde color possible. It brings a bready, crisp continental flavor to lager styles, and is exceptional in Pilsners and Helles beers. It can be used in a single temperature stage infusion mash, although a step mash is traditional with Czech pilsner styles and will promote head retention. Use up to 100% in the mash. Grown in small batches in England, and floor malted by Crisp Malting.
