Unlike optical refractometers that cannot reliabily read final gravity in beverages that contain alcohol, the SmartRef, with its free app for iOS and Android, determines original and final gravity with automatic alcohol compensation. With a sample volume of only 0.4 mL, the SmartRef delivers accurate results with automatic temperature compensation (ATC).
It also can measure the alcohol content of a beverage without knowing the starting and final gravity, if used in conjunction with the Anton Paar EasyDens. This is the most affordable way to check the exact alcohol content of a beverage, and is invaluable when doing things like making low or no alcohol beer.
