A counter flow chiller is more efficient that an immersion chiller, and will save you a lot of water and time. You can cool wort in a single pass in most cases, as long as your tap water temperature is 60 F or less. It is less prone to clogging than a plate chiller, and much easier to clean.
The Red Reaper features 18' of copper pipe enclosed is a cooling jacket of PEX tubing. Counter flow means you run the hot wort in one end, and the cooling water enters the surrounding jacket on the opposite end.
This chiller uses PEX tubing that is swaged/soldered to the copper wort pipe. This provides a superior method of connection compared to a clamp, and also ensures that your house water supply used for cooling will never get anywhere near the pressure required to burst the PEX tubing. What is PEX tubing? PEX is short for cross-linked polyethylene, a flexible plastic pipe used as an alternative to traditional copper pipes in plumbing, and rated to 130 PSI bursting strength (house water pressure never exceeds 80 PSI, and is usually 30 to 50 PSI).
This chiller features 9.5mm inlets and outlets, and is compatible with all 9.5mm Duotight connectors.
Specification:
18' length of copper tubing
Inlet / Outlet Size 9.5mm duotight compatible barbs
3 x Rubberised Feet
1 x Hinged Stainless Hanger (for BrewZilla/Grainfather/Mash & Boil Handles)
Rinse clean between uses and use something like PBW once in a while to soak the insides before flushing. Keep out of direct sunlight for longest service life.
