Imperial Stout Yeast Choices

- +

In stock, will ship on Thursday, December 11

• New Preboiled Extract Means a Quick 30 Minute Boil

• New Choice of Optional Liquid or Dry Yeast

Our Imperial Stout features an intense load of ingredients - 11 pounds of dark extract mashed from European pale and roasted malts, 2 pounds of brewing beet sugar for intensity, American flavoring and aromatic hops, and a touch of French Oak to round out the flavor. An intense, rich, sipping stout for the cooler months. Alcohol: 9%, IBU's 38

Includes 13 pounds of our blended malt extract and brewing sugar, flavoring and aromatic hops, granular oak, and carbonation sugar. Needed yeast not included, order separately above.

This is an Advanced Kit: A Secondary Fermenter and Wort Chiller are required to succesfully brew this strong beer.

Yeast recommendations:

1. Wyeast Ringwood Ale Liquid Yeast for the smoothest flavor (2 packs needed due to the high alcohol content)

2. Apex San Diego Dry Yeast is easier to use, and makes a beer with a flavor almost as smooth as Ringwood Ale.

All Gone

Review by David on 9/16/2014

This is my "go to" stout kit. Kegged it and let it age a couple of months. Once tapped, we couldn't keep away from it, and it just got better and better. Next time I will let it age longer initially. I have started all-grain brewing, but will certainly do this extract kit in the future.

One of the Better William's kits

This is what Guiness should taste like if they did it right. I had folks in my office who are not big stout fans who liked this brew. Be warned, the alcohol content is high, but it sneaks up on you...

Awesome - Added bourbon and oak

Review by ROBERT on 4/13/2013

This is a really great imperial stout. Instead of adding the included granulated oak, I soaked 2oz of oak cubes in bourbon for a week and added it to the beer after fermentation was complete. The result was a very oaky and awesome beer. Best I've brewed ever. Next time I might reduce the oak a bit and add more bourbon. Highly recommended.

So far so good...

Brewed this a few weeks back and have it in the secondary right now. Everything seems to be going according to plan so far. Had an extremely active fermentation which I've heard of but never seen...the krausen filled the airlock and eventually caused enough pressure to pop the lid off of the primary. It was a good laugh and now my spare room smells of imperial stout...delicious!! if only everyone could be so lucky!
