Q: I’m having issues getting an active boil with my new mash and boil with pump equipment. I have set the temp as high as 220 F but it only reaches about 210 F and a very low boil. Boil off is only about a half gallon per hour. Any suggestions? Thanks.

A: It should reach 212 F but no higher as it is limited by the boiling point of water. Try a different outlet, and avoid using extension cords. Boil off of 1/2 to 3/4 gallon per hour is typical.

Q: Is it necessary/recommended to recirculate wort with this unit?

A: It is not necessary, you can infusion mash in this unit at one temperature. Some brewers like to drain a quart of so of wort during the mash and mix it into the top of the grain basket for a recirculation effect.

Q: The temperature controller says it can do 45F. Does this mean that this mean it has the ability to cool, or does it heat only? If heat only, how would it hold up to the entire unit being kept in a thermostat controlled fridge at about 65F?

A: No, it does not having cooling ability. If you set it at 65 degrees F. it will work fine.

Q: What is the lowest temperature I can set, like if I want to do a kettle sour? Could it be set down to 100F?

A: Yes it can be set to 100 F or lower.

Q: Can I use this as a fermenter?

A: Yes, after boiling your wort you will need to empty the unit, clean out the trub, and then pour the wort back in. Use the optional distiling/fermenting lid (item L14) along with a #10 stopper (item R61) and an airlock (item E01).
