good first time brew

Review by Dan on 9/5/2011

This was my first attempt at brewing and it turned out great! My only complaint is that the alcohol content was a bit low, i don't know if it was something i did wrong. I will definitely brew this again.

A run for favorite so far!

This was my 5th batch. Might be the best one yet. Used a secondary fermenting tank and that really helped with clarity and any sediment. It does have a very good "nutty" flavor but not overly flavored. Well balanced. I do like a New Castle and I feel this has more flavor and all who has tasted agree. I do recommend using a secondary fermenting tank not only for this beer but all. The Williams Stout is the "runner up" in this taste test!

Great for making pumpink beer!

Review by Denilson on 5/13/2011

This is a great beer! I got it a couple of times before to make pumpink beer around October and it came out GREAT!

If it's brown, ehm.. guzzle it down!!

Review by Andrew G. on 6/1/2010

Pros: I tired newcastle for the first time just before tasting this. This has definately got more flavor. After one weekend it's over half gone. I think I may have converted many folks away from bud light with this one!!

Cons: Not exactly a con; as it's my personal taste.. I've grown acustomed to very hoppy high abv american microbrew, and this wasn't quite up my alley. were I to do it again I'd add some corn sugar to boost the alcohol a bit at least.

Balanced, midlands-style brown ale

Review by David M. on 5/7/2010

Pros: Excellent balance of residual sweetness from the darker malting of the barley sugars and dryness from the hops gives this moderately light brown ale a great drinkability. Alcohol level isn't so high you can't enjoy several in a session. The level of carbonation may be a bit higher than some prefer, but this is not a classic bitter so you should expect some head.

Cons: If you are looking for a chewy, Scottish oatmeal brown ale, you will find this a bit light, but it really is true to its variety and quite a bit more to it than many American browns or what you might find around London. My wife insists I keep this in stock as it is her favorite by far. Thanks for helping me keep her happy!
