Good for what it is

This is a solid "New Castle" comp kit. The brew took about a week longer in finishing but the end result came out fine. If you like New Castle you'll like this brew.

Surprised myself

Review by Bruce on 11/2/2012

This was my first batch of beer that I brewed, and even though I thought I was making mistakes at every turn, the beer turned out to be fantastic. It tastes similar to Newcastle, of which I am a big fan. The finishing gravity stated in the instructions was never quite reached, but I chalk that up to my experience level. My friends love it and are surprised that it came out so good!

Simple but Great Beer

Review by Warren on 6/1/2012

This is the first beer that I ever brewed (Jan 2012). It was very easy to brew following the included directions and the end result was a very good brown ale. My friends and I agreed, it's something we'd be willing to pay for at a bar. The one piece of advice I'd give is to allow the beer to sit unrefrigerated for 1-2 weeks longer than the instructions mention. This allows the flavors to meld properly and provide that smooth brown ale experience. The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that it's just a simple, quality brown ale. That's all it tries to be, so it hits the mark, but there's nothing particularly special or memorable about it. This would be a great base beer to play around with adding flavors to.

Very Nice Brown

I cannot judge this kit based on its' own merits because I added 2lbs of Orange Blossom Honey into the boil. Taking that ino account, the color is nice and earthy. The flavors at its' base are subtle (mine is a tad sweeter) but overall very welcoming. Good carbonation & head. Cons: There are none. This is a really good kit.
